Lower Energy Bills Solar Panels in Bournemouth

The energy giants claim to have no choice – their bills are being driven up as they buy 50pc of their energy on the international wholesale market, and they have to pass this higher cost on to households. The cheapest energy tariffs keep getting axed and now there are no tariffs costing under £1,000 a year for an average home. It is possible to offset the rising prices by fitting Solar panels in Bournemouth to the roof of your house, assuming it points in the right direction and you have the money to pay for the initial installation.  If you do it could prove to be a very lucrative investment.  Even using the very conservative govenment approved formulae to calculate the returns the savings over the medium to long term are seriously impressive.  If you live on the south coast in Bournemouth in Dorset for example where the sunshine hours are more plentiful than in Sheffield it is only natural that the returns will be greater.  The govenment introduced an incenitve scheme to help sweeten the initial sums needed to get up and running. The feed-in tariff scheme garantees to pay these rates tax free for the next 25 years. The installation must be installed and registered by an MCS appreoved installer to meet the stringent conditions set by the feed-in tariff program. Solar Photovoltaic (PVs) are arrays of cells containing a Solar photovoltaic material that converts solar radiation into electricity. The will generate their maximum in direct sunlight, but even on overcast days they will still produce a useful amount of energy.

Feed-in Tarrifs Explained

From 1st April 2010 the government introduced the feed-in tariff programme whereby householders are paid for every unit of electricity generated by a photovoltaic solar panel system on the property. The amount you receive for the Feed in Tariff (FIT) will depend on the actual output of your system which will be metered. This will vary with size of the array of the photo volataic panels in your roof, your location in the UK.  As a guide the government have produced a standard method of calculation based on the nominal output of your system, the orientation and slope of your roof and the amount of shading affecting the installation.

Bournemouth council homes to get solar panels

More council homes in Bournemouth could be fitted with solar panels as part of a pilot scheme.

Bournemouth borough council said a further 200 houses could be fitted with the solar panels if councillors give the go-ahead.

The panels are already being installed on aproximately 50 houses and two Bournemouth schools.

The cost will average out at £8,000 per property and will be recouped through an energy payments scheme. As many as 50 jobs could be created if the scheme is approved.

Councillor Robert Lawton said: “Following the inital scheme, we will be looking to fit solar panels on to all council housing, care homes and schools in Bournemouth.

“The total investment could potentially be £22m, with £12m of savings by way of cheaper electricity bills and £15m by way of an income from the Government’s feed-in tariff.”

The two Bournemouth schools taking part in the pilot solar panel project are Kingsleigh Primary School and Heathlands Primary School.
